In order to meet various objectives, the top picatinny rail were divided into three separate sections: a receiver rail and two Gator Rails attached to the handguard. The entire handguard/rail system features adjustable fitments to accommodate manufacturing tolerances in different rifles. We deliberately avoided using a continuous top rail to mitigate the impact of manufacturing tolerances on accuracy. Our experience as custom lever gun builders has shown that a continuous rail connecting the receiver to the barrel can negatively affect accuracy. For the same reason, we strongly advise against bridging the receiver rail to a Gator Rail using a single optic.
The Costa/RPP Handguard + Rail system offers three adjustment options: lateral adjustment at the receiver junction through angled set screws, lateral adjustment at the mounting tenon facilitated by perpendicular set screws and the tenon itself, and vertical adjustment at each leg of the “Gator Rails.” These adjustments ensure a precise fit for different rifles.
